The Township of Scugog has a rich heritage. Our community recognizes efforts to protect and promote our heritage through an awards program, our Heritage Conservation District (HCD) and a heritage plaque program. 

The Scugog Heritage Advisory Committee handles Scugog's heritage-related matters, including decisions about our Heritage Register

Heritage Plaque Program

The Township of Scugog has two Heritage Plaque Programs to promote heritage buildings and sites. these programs are a great way for the community and visitors to appreciate our history and cultural heritage.

The Heritage Plaque Program was created to partner with citizens of the Township of Scugog and to share in their pride of ownership of a historic home or commercial building. If you are the proud owner of a historic home or commercial building in the Township of Scugog please consider applying for your Heritage Scugog Plaque today. 

The Heritage Conservation District Plaque Program promotes cultural heritage in Scugog's downtown core. The Heritage Advisory Committee is pleased to have promoted Port Perry's cultural heritage within the downtown core by introducing a new Heritage Plaque Program to inform visitors and locals about the history of the commercial buildings of Queen Street.  

Heritage Awards

The Heritage Scugog Awards recognizes the hard work done by individuals and groups to preserve and promote our community's heritage. 

There are six different awards to be presented to individuals and groups who help preserve, protect and promote Scugog's heritage.

This award recognizes excellence in the preservation or adaptive reuse of a building 40 years or older. 

This award recognizes an individual or group that has worked to preserve and promote Scugog's agricultural heritage. 

This award recognizes a sensitive addition to a heritage building or modern infill building that is complementary to the heritage character of a specific area. 

Awarded to those who have made a career-long, cumulative impact and contribution to the practice and understanding of heritage within our Community. 

Awarded to a volunteer-based organization that promotes or protects heritage in the Township of Scugog.

This award goes to non-fiction work about Scugog's archeological, built, cultural and/or natural heritage. Projects such as films, websites, maps and exhibits are eligible.
