Livestock Claims
The Wildlife Damage Compensation Program has replaced the Livestock, Poultry and Honey Bee Protection Act. If you have lost livestock and poultry to certain animal predators, you are entitled to seek compensation under the Ontario Wildlife Damage Compensation Program (OWDCP).
Livestock and poultry producers can make claims to their local municipality to try and recoup losses.
The Clerk's Division processes claims for killed or injured livestock caused by wildlife as outlined in the Ontario Wildlife Damage Compensation Program. Provincial regulations establish maximum amounts of compensation.
If you believe you have lost livestock or poultry because of a predator, you should immediately notify the Livestock Valuer and Township within 48 hours. All claims are subject to the Livestock Valuer's Inspection and Report.
Livestock Valuers
- Primary Valuer, Dale Feasby 905-852-3987
All livestock and poultry owners making a claim for compensation must and must sign the completed report when the valuer is on site and provide the following documents to the livestock valuer:
-
- Social Insurance Number (SIN)
- Premises ID number
- Farm Business Registration Number
Notify the Township
After contacting an appointed livestock valuer in the Township of Scugog you must also notify the Township of an expected claim.
Damage caused by dogs
If the Livestock Valuer determines that the damage to livestock and poultry was caused by a stray dog that is not normally found on the premises, the claimant is not eligible for compensation through this program. Instead, the process set out in the Protection of Livestock and Poultry from Dogs Act should be followed.
The Municipality will compensate eligible producers after the Valuer has submitted the application to the Clerk's Division.
Income Taxes
You will need to include an AGR-1 Tax Form with the total dollar amount of claims for the year with your Income Tax Return. The Township of Scugog provides you with this form, if you've received compensation during the current tax year.
