Construction set to begin for new washroom and splashpad in Palmer Park

As part of the Waterfront Action Plan, construction preparation and upgrade to water service for a new washroom in Palmer Park and replacement of the splashpad is expected to begin the week of August 6, 2024, and continue for approximately 3 months.

The contract for this project has been awarded to Powcon Inc. Construction will begin with servicing the site followed by installation of the prefabricated washroom building and replacement of the splashpad. Removal of the splashpad is scheduled to begin in September.

The general scope of work for the project is outlined below.

• Upgrade of the existing water service to Palmer Park
• Servicing and installation of a new prefabricated washroom building
• Removal of the existing splash pad
• Replacement of the splashpad
• Landscaping
• Tree plantings
• Armour stone seat wall
• Seating with tables and shade umbrellas

To upgrade the water service to the park, construction will be required on Water Street to tie into the existing watermain; traffic controls will be set up on the road to allow for this work. Please use caution and follow the construction signage in and around the construction zone. 

The water supply to the splash pad will need to be shut down in August to install the new water service. The splashpad will be temporarily closed during this time. Details of the interruption to the water at the splashpad will be communicated once dates are confirmed.

During the design process, a public survey was conducted for the splashpad on My Scugog, Our Community website. The final design of the splashpad incorporated elements from the designs presented, based on comments from the public survey. The design features two distinct play areas, one for younger children with spray hoops, small jets, and animals. The other area, for older children has larger jets and a large dump bucket.
