Let Us Know Your Community Priorities to Help Shape the 2025 Scugog Budget
The Township of Scugog is preparing the 2025 budget and wants to hear from residents and property owners about their budget priorities. Scugog provides programs and services to the community based on an annual Operating and Capital budget. Each year staff prepare the budget taking into consideration the needs of the community, economic pressures and drivers, growth, the services to residents as well as engineering priorities for infrastructure and asset management.
Long term sustainability is one of our main goals and as with many other municipalities across Canada, the infrastructure deficit continues to be a major issue that we must continue to address. Dedicated levies have provided the Township the means to tackle many large-scale infrastructure projects. Solid budget planning will continue to allow for upgrades to existing roads, bridges, sidewalks, parks, playgrounds, technology upgrades and more serving the Scugog community.
Input from the community is a vital part of the budget planning process. Let us know where you would like your tax dollars directed. Visit our Budget page on My Scugog, Our Community, to provide your input to the 2025 Budget by August 15. In addition to the budget feedback form, the My Scugog site provides information on how a municipal budget is built, the budget process timeline, budget facts, Frequently Asked Questions, and a comment form for you to ask a question. Scugog Finance staff are monitoring the site and will respond to questions submitted.
Additional opportunities to provide feedback will be announced. Subscribe to Scugog news or follow through social media @TwpofScugog.

Scugog Fire Responds to Early Morning Fire in Blackstock
On Wednesday, June 5, at 2:07am, Scugog Fire was paged to a fire at 13900 Old Scugog Road in Blackstock. Upon arrival the fire was observed to have engulfed two homes on Old Scugog Road. It was reported that there had been an explosion in a shed behind the residence, which subsequently ignited a car that then spread to the back of both homes. Thank you to the quick action of a neighbour who called 911 and alerted the families. All seven occupants in the two homes evacuated safely prior to Scugog Fire’s arrival.
Two stations from Scugog Fire responded, with mutual aid provided by Uxbridge and Clarington. Scugog Fire with help from Clarington’s arial truck extinguished the fires and currently the scene is under a fire watch. The Office of the Fire Marshal has been contacted as standard practice for fires of this nature.
Old Scugog Road is closed from Church Street to the Fairgrounds. Community outreach is underway through the local community to assist the affected families. Residents are reminded to ensure that they have working smoke alarms on all levels of their homes, especially outside sleeping areas. For information on how to protect your family and property please visit scugog.ca/fire
Quote:
“My thoughts are with the Blackstock families that have lost their homes. I am thankful to the response of Scugog, Clarington and Uxbridge Fire Services. I am proud of the quick support offered by the local community to their fellow neighbours. It is in these moments that a community comes together.”
- Scugog Mayor Wilma Wotten
Scugog Releases Department Annual Reports for 2023
The Township of Scugog, under the leadership of Scugog Council, provides a wide variety of services, programs and project delivery work that impacts residents on a regular basis. A 2023 Annual Report highlighted the services and initiatives delivered to residents over the course of last year.
"The Township delivers services that directly affect residents on a regular basis. Residents often see the front facing services when a road is plowed, when they enroll in a recreation program, when a fire vehicle responds to an emergency, or when they use our roads, facilities, and parks,” reported Ken Nix, Scugog CAO. "However, each service you see requires a team of staff from various departments that supports the organization and ensures we continue to deliver quality services to the residents of Scugog."
Even though each department lead specific services, every service affects departments across the organization. Accomplishments were a result of collaboration and cooperation among departments and staff across the organization, and the leadership of Township Council.
As we celebrate the accomplishments of 2023, we will continue to work for our community and look forward to the accomplishments that 2024 will bring! For general inquiries about the annual reports, please email mail@scugog.ca
